originally a feature in the award-winning “a moment in time” garden — people’s choice and silver winner at the 2024 melbourne international flower and garden show — the hut captured hearts with its rustic charm and powerful message. now, it lives on at sequoyah retreat, lovingly reimagined as an immersive experience stay.
this unique escape invites you to slow down, unplug, and reconnect with nature. it's designed to feel like a step back in time, offering a space to relax and reflect, much like the garden it was inspired by, which honours the story of a veteran pilot who faced challenges in duty and has returned home to seek peace.
the hut is simple in design and form, intentionally pared back to include only the basic necessities for a quiet, grounded stay. it encourages a slower rhythm and a deeper connection to the environment. this simplicity is not about going without, but about having just enough to truly be present.

what our guests are saying
“a magical piece of heaven on earth. the trees, plants, birds, animals and the amazing energy. as soon as I walked into the property, I felt so calm and slept soundly, it was uniquely healing. I will be returning to sequoyah retreat for my regular dose of healing and connection.”
— kylie and shane, nsw
“the drive into this amazing temperate rainforest along the black spur was something to behold. amazing tall mountain ash trees on both sides of the road. breathtaking! sequoyah is tucked away on the side of a steep rainforest. it is secluded and quiet. the only thing that we could hear was a variety of wildlife. we would recommend sequoyah retreat if you want time away in complete seclusion. it’s tranquil and peaceful.”
— deb and greg, qld
“what an amazing experience to behold!!! Set in nature that is breathtaking. the tall elegant trees stand with such presence. I was fortunate to stay two nights in this serene environment, woken up by the silence and then the calls of the various parrots and the gentle breeze making it’s way through the ferns and trees.”
— leon, nsw
wildlife haven
share the space with resident deer, wombats, wallabies, and possums. rare antechinus are occasionally seen, and with over 80 bird species around, there’s always something to spot from the porch or on a quiet walk.
